Principal Financial Group Director - Engineering, in Principal Asset Management in Des Moines, Iowa

What You'll Do

We’re looking for a Director of Engineering to join our Principal Asset Management Front Office team and drive execution of key technology initiatives. This is a leadership position responsible for influencing our Front Office technology strategy on a global perspective!

  • Direct accountability for Front Office systems and engineering practices

  • Talent management through staff recruitment, performance assessments, training, and career development. Responsible for all headcount planning and personnel evolution for multiple areas of the engineering organization

  • Understand customer needs across Principal Asset Management and work to identify areas of enhanced customer experience for the organization

  • Develop strategic plans for technical infrastructure and business system development that take advantage of technological changes. Establish priorities for strategic systems direction and contribute to the profitable growth of the organization

  • Communicates multi-year technical strategy across the variety of teams in identifying further strategic areas for development. Develop and manage departmental budget, objectives, policies, and procedures

  • Collaborate across functional and organizational areas to define, prioritize and ensure implementation of specific innovations to improve technical functionality in support of business needs, efficiencies and revenue

  • Be a key technology leader and expert. Lead conversations internally about the direction of major areas of technology, drive team-wide consensus to the adoption of this direction and inspire engineers. Seen as a role model and mentor to every technical member of the team

  • Set the standard and drive teams to deliver high quality products, services and process. Take calculated risks. Accomplish more with less. Deliver results with the quality and timeliness. Rise to the occasion, even with setbacks

This includes actively modernizing our existing technology towards the cloud, automation, and simplification, with a focus on best positioning our talent to deliver on our strategy.

Who You Are

  • Bachelor's degree (preference in computer sciences, information systems, business administration) or equivalent, plus 10 or more years of relevant experience

  • Formal leader experience required, with a preference of 6+ years of leadership, leader of leaders

  • Excellent leadership, problem solving, analytical, and decision-making skills are required

  • Strong oral and written communication skills are necessary

  • Ability to travel to Des Moines, IA headquarters on a quarterly basis if remote

Skills That Will Help You Stand Out

  • Experience in the Asset Management/Investment Management industry, preferably with focus on Front Office systems, methodologies and trade lifecycle

  • Experience in Risk Analytics and Research, Investment Portfolio Data concepts, or Advanced Analytics

  • Cloud platforms experience (we use AWS)

Salary Range Information

Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.

Salary Range (Non-Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly)

$153000 - $207000 / year

Time Off Program

Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short-term illness. Employees don’t accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided.
